Police arrested a man on Sunday on charge of raping his sister-in-law, a seventh grader, in Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila.
The arrestee was identified as Sumon, 27, son of Abdur Sabur from Singpara village.
Sumon was arrested after the girl's father filed a case with Sadar police station earlier in the day.
According to the case, Sumon married the plaintiff's elder daughter three years ago. The couple has a two-year-old daughter.
On February 10, the plaintiff went to visit his son-in-law along with his younger daughter. The girl stayed back even though the father returned home. In the night, Sumon raped the girl stuffing a scarf in her mouth to swallow her screams.
When she fell sick and informed the family, they took her to Thakurgaon General Hospital.
Sumon was produced before a court on Sunday, said Inspector Parvin Begum, the investigation officer of the case. The court later sent him to jail.
