A Manikganj court has sentenced a man to death for killing a madrasah student in the district back in 2010.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Utpal Bhattacharya handed down the verdict at around 4pm on Thursday.
Death-row convict Selim Hossain, 40, was present in the courtroom during the judgment delivery.
The court also sentenced another accused, named Md Raju, 30, to one-year imprisonment. Raju has been on the run since the murder.
According to case details, victim Shariful Islam, 19, was stabbed to death by Selim over previous enmity on December 12, 2010.
Shariful's elder brother Shafiqul Islam filed the murder case with local police against 13 people, including Selim, his wife Nazma Begum and brother-in-law Raju.
Police, following investigation, later let off nine accused from the charge sheet. While Nazma was acquitted and Raju remained fugitive, Selim has been behind bars and another accused has died.
The state counsels expressed satisfaction over the verdict but the defence lawyers said they would appeal in the High Court challenging it.
