A Cox’s Bazar court has sentenced five people to life imprisonment for murdering a man named Mehedi in 2010.
Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court of Abdullah Al Mamun also fined the convicts Tk5 lakh each.
The convicts are--Mohammad Farooq Prakash Omar Farooq, Shahed Boshor, Shagor Rahman, Mithu Ahmed and Wasim Hossain.
Among the five, Farooq and Shahed were present at the court during the verdict. The other three are currently on the run.
Mehedi, the son of late Mohammad Solaiman, hailed from Baharchara area of the district.
The case statement read, the convicts attacked and murdered Mehedi Hasan on the Circuit House Road on April 20, 2010.
The victim's father filed a case with the Sadar Police Station in this regard two days later. The court framed charges against the five under section 302/34.
After hearing both sides, the court on Thursday pronounced its verdict.
