A court in Gopalganj on Monday sentenced two persons to death and six others to life term imprisonment for killing a man named Moslem Sardar in 2006.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Abbas Uddin pronounced the verdict.
The condemned convicts are Iqu Sikdar, 45, and Selim Sikdar, 42. Those receiving life imprisonment are Sakayet Sikdar, 84, Mursalin Sheikh, 42, Enamul Sikdar, 37, Azizul Sikdar, 65, Osman Munsi, 45, and Polash Seikh, 32.
According to the prosecution, the convicts killed Moslem Sardar over a longstanding dispute and fled the scene, abandoning the body in Pithabari Beel under Gopalganj Sadar upazila on November 29, 2006.
On December 3 the same year, police recovered the body and filed a case in this regard.
The deceased's brother Mohon Sardar filed a case with Gopalganj Sadar Police Station.
Police submitted a charge sheet against eight people after an investigation into the murder.
After examining records and witnesses, the court handed down the verdict in the presence of six convicts out of eight.
Of the convicts, Mursalin and Enamul have been absconding.
