A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent BNP leader Moqbul Hossain, arrested for instigating the recent clashes in New Market area, to jail after his three-day remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ishrat Jahan passed the order and fixed Thursday for the bail hearing, reports Bangla Tribune.
Accused Moqbul was produced in court after the remand. At the same time, New Market police station Inspector Haldar Arpit Tagore, the investigating officer of the case, requested the court to keep Moqbul in jail until the end of the investigation.

The BNP leader was arrested from his Dhanmondi home in the capital on April 22 on charges of instigating the clashes on April 19 that left two dead.
The following day, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid placed him on a three-day remand.
Sharif Md Faruquzzaman, senior assistant commissioner of New Market zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said that the police did not consider his personal or political identity while arresting him.
“He is the number one accused in a case filed over the clashes. A special operation is being carried out to nab the other accused. The rest will be brought under the law soon,” he added.

Moqbul, a member of the BNP’s Dhaka south unit, is the former president of BNP’s New Market thana unit. He owns the two fast food shops – Welcome and Capital – from where the clash ensued on April 18.
His name was first mentioned by the Dhaka College students during a press conference as an instigator.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the High Court granted six-week anticipatory bail to 14 BNP leaders and activists in cases filed over the clashes.
Several cases have been filed in the incident by police, and families of the victims.
