A Dhaka court has placed a man on five-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of a woman in front of her two children in the capital's Sabujbagh area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Afnan Sumi passed the order on Tuesday after police produced AC technician Bappi before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

During primary interrogation, Bappi said he went to the flat of Tania Afroz, 26, in Dakkhingaon Bot Tola area in Sabujbagh on March 26 evening and tried to rob the house.

As Tania tried to resist, police said, Bappi hacked her to death in front of her children, one three-year-old, and another 10-month-old. He then tapped their mouths to stop them from screaming.

Bappi ransacked the house and fled the scene with gold ornaments, a mobile phone and Tk15,000 cash, said police.
