A case has been filed against two police officers including the officer-in-charge (OC) of Saltha police station in Faridpur on charges of assaults and extortion.

Gotti Union Parishad Member Murad Molla, 48, filed the case against OC Ashikuzzaman and Sub-Inspector (SI) Hannan with the District Judge’s Court on Sunday.

The court directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) of Faridpur to investigate the case and submit a report by April 18, said Ibrahim Hossain, counsel for the plaintiff in the case.

The judge also directed the Dhaka Range deputy inspector general (DIG) and the Faridpur superintendent of police to look into the matter.

According to the case statement, before the UP election held on November 11, 2021, OC Ashikuzzaman demanded money from the plaintiff at different times, threatening that he would not be allowed to vote if he did not pay the money.

Murad was forced to pay Tk75,000 to the OC, after which he demanded another Tk100,000 from him at different times.

OC Ashikuzzaman also implicated Murad in three false charges due to non-payment of money, says the case. Moreover, by the order of the OC, SI Hannan arrested Murad’s brother Jihad and tortured him.

SI Hannan also produced Jihad in court in a false case. And after being released on bail, he was admitted to Bangabandhu Medical College Hospital as he could not walk normally due to his injuries. He is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital, the UP member said in the case.
