Shitalakshya Launch Capsize: Cargo driver, 7 others remanded

Bodies of eight passengers of the launch have been recovered so far

A Narayanganj court has granted the police three days to question eight people, including the driver of cargo vessel “MV Rupshi-9” that hit a sunken-deck launch on Sunday. 

Judge Kauser Alam of Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court gave the order after Bandar police produced the persons before it on Monday.

They were shown arrested in the two cases filed over the death of eight passengers of the launch named “ML Ashraf Uddin” including children, recovered from the Shitalakshya River till Monday evening.

Court police Inspector Md Asaduzzaman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

Several others have remained missing since the launch sank near Syedpur Al Amin Nagar area around 2:20pm on Sunday.

The cargo fled the scene but was seized by River Police members on Sunday night. The police also detained nine people on board the cargo, owned by City Seed Crushing Industries.
