The High Court on Monday ordered the formation of a committee to publish reliable Bengali text of the basic laws to expedite use of the mother tongue in court.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir passed the order, and also issued a rule in this regard.
Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir argued for the 10 lawyers, who filed the writ petition.
The court asked the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs to form the committee with representatives from Bangla Academy, Law Commission, Faculty of Law and Bengali Department of Dhaka University, and submit a progress report.
The lawyers filed the petition, pleading to the court for directions to translate the basic civil and criminal laws to make those readable in Bengali.
