A Dhaka court has summoned national cricketer Nasir Hossain and Tamima Sultana after a Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) found their marriage illegal.
On Thursday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim ordered the couple and Tamima’s mother Sumi Aktar to appear before it by October 31.
The order came after PBI Investigating Officer Mizanur Rahman filed the probe report of a case filed by Tamima’s first husband Md Rakib Hasan.

On February 24, the court ordered an investigation.
Rakib filed the case claiming that Tamima married Nasir without divorcing him which is illegal under religious and state laws.
The PBI report said that Tamima’s marriage to Nasir is void, since her divorce with Rakib was not valid. The divorce documents that were shown have been forged.
According to the case, Rakib and his eight-year-old daughter are severely traumatized due to “such an immoral and illicit relationship” between Tamima and Nasir.
However, on the same day, Nasir said at a press briefing that they got married after Tamima divorced Rakib.

Supporting Nasir’s claim, Tamima, who works as a cabin crew in a foreign airline, said she had divorced Rakib in 2017.
“I was married to Rakib, and yes, we have a child together. Everything else that Rakib has said are lies,” she claimed.
The wedding ceremony of cricketer Nasir and Tamima was held at a restaurant in Uttara on February 14.
After the photos of their marriage went viral on social media, Rakib filed a general diary with Uttara West police station. The GD says he was married to Tamima for 11 years, they have an eight-year-old daughter from the marriage, and that she had not divorced him.
