A Faridpur court on Tuesday sentenced a man to death in a case filed for murdering a woman after rape in 2010.
Faridpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Pradip Kumar Roy handed down the verdict.
The condemned convict is Zindar Ali Sheikh alias Palash. He was convicted of the rape and murder of Rupali Khanam.
According to the prosecution, Rupali went missing on May 20, 2010, days after Zindar Ali had asked for her hand in marriage. The proposal had been turned down by the victim’s family.
Police recovered Rupali's body the next day. Her father Md Moslem Mollah filed a case over her death.
Subsequently, police arrested Zindar in connection with the incident. During interrogation, he confessed to killing Rupali with a pair of scissors after raping her.
