A Dhaka court has ordered the police to submit the probe report in a case filed against an assistant judge for allegedly torturing his wife for dowry.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Debabrata Biswas on Tuesday directed Shahbagh police to submit the report on October 3, General Recording Officer (GRO) Sub-Inspector Mokbul Hossain told Dhaka Tribune.

According to case documents, Kaniz Fatima was married to Nazrul Islam, an assistant judge, on August 7, 2019.

On Monday, she filed a case against her husband for beating her and demanding dowry.

According to the statement, on the morning of August 30 this year, the couple was staying at the dormitory of the Institute of Judicial Administration Training on College Road, Dhaka when Islam reportedly demanded a dowry of Tk10 lakh from her in order to buy some land.

When she refused, Islam allegedly assaulted her and threatened to divorce her, the statement said.

She immediately informed her elder brother Riaz Rahman, who rescued her and took her to a private hospital for treatment.

On August 31, when her condition deteriorated, she was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
