The High Court on Monday issued a rule asking authorities concerned as to why it shall not pass an order to formulate an ethical code of conduct for journalists.
A division virtual bench comprising Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order after holding a hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.
The court asked the information secretary, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission chairman and Bangladesh Press Council chairman to reply to the rule within seven days.

The High Court in its rule also asked the concerned authorities to explain why their inaction in formulating the ethical code of conduct for newspaper, news agency and journalists shall not be declared out of legal authority.
Barrister Jarin Rahman and Advocate Rashida Choudhury Nilu argued for the plea before the court, while Deputy Attorney General Nowroz Md Russel Chowdhury stood for the state.
