The defecne counsel also filed a bail petition, but the court rejected it.
On Saturday, the police recovered the bodies of expatriate worker Masud Rana, 50, his wife Mousumi Islam, 40, and their younger daughter Jannatul, 18, from their house in Dhaka’s Kadamtali area.

Mehzabin’s husband Shafiqul Islam, 40, and their daughter, Marjan Tabassum Triptia, 5, were rescued from the house and are now being treated at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Later on Saturday, Rana’s brother Shakhawat Hossain filed a case with Kadamtali police station, accusing Mehzabin and her husband Shafiqul of the killings.
"Police arrested Mehzabin Moon on Saturday after the killings. Her husband is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Two more arrests have been made,” Deputy Commissioner Iftekhar Ahmed of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Wari Division said on Sunday.
Mehzabin confessed to killing her parents and sister during initial interrogation, he further added.
The murders
Police said on Saturday that Mehzabin tricked her family members, including her husband and daughter, and fed them sleeping pills on Friday night, rendering them unconscious. She then tied their hands and feet with rope.
“Our initial investigation found that she put the rope around their necks and strangled them,” Kadamtali police station OC Jamal Uddin Mir told the media.
On Saturday morning, Mehzabin called 999 and told the operator that she had killed her parents and sister.
“Hurry, or else I will kill my husband and daughter too,” Mehzabin told the operator, according to police.
The motive
DMP Deputy Commissioner Iftekhar Ahmed said Mehazabin claimed her younger sister had been having an affair with her husband.
Mehzabin’s cousin Shila told the media that Mehzabin also murdered her previous husband.
“Mehzabin, her parents and sister were jailed in that case. They were released on bail after five years in jail,” she claimed.
DMP official Iftekhar, however, told Dhaka Tribune: “According to our information that Mehzabin’s first husband was allegedly killed by her current husband Shafiqul. We are cross checking it as well as the claims made by Mehzabin.”
