Two virtual courts in Dhaka on Wednesday placed Rafiqul Islam Madani, popularly known as “shishu bokta” or child preacher, on remand for a total of nine days in two cases.
Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufiyan Md Noman granted four days’ remand for Rafiqul after the Detective Branch (DB) of Police produced him in court with a 10-day remand plea in a case filed with Motijheel police station.
The case was filed accusing 51 named and 200-300 unnamed leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam of preventing police from discharging their duties.

Meanwhile, another Dhaka court placed the controversial orator on a five-day remand in a case filed with Tejgaon police station under the Digital Security Act on April 11.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim issued the order after Sub-Inspector Shoibuddin Ahmed produced him before the court, seeking a seven-day remand for interrogation.
On March 25, Rafiqul Islam Madani was arrested in the capital’s Motijheel area during a demonstration protesting the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence. But he was released from custody soon after.
Later on April 7, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Rafiqul from his ancestral home in Netrokona’s Purbadhala upazila.
