Man to walk the gallows for 2019 murder inside Comilla judge's chamber

Hasan, a murder accused chased and stabbed dead his own cousin, a co-accused, inside a judge’s chamber in a Comilla courtroom – while the trial of the case was in progress

A man has been sentenced to death for committing murder inside a judge’s chamber at a Comilla court in 2019.

Comilla District and Sessions Judge Md Atabullah on Monday declared the capital punishment against Md Hasan, 23, of district’s Laksam upazila, confirmed Additional Public Prosecutor Nurul Islam.

According to court sources, Hasan, a murder accused chased and stabbed dead his own cousin, a co-accused, inside a judge’s chamber in a Comilla courtroom – while the trial of the case was in progress. 

Both Faruk and Hasan were accused in the murder of Haji Abdul Karim, which occurred in 2013 in Kandi village. The duo, who had been out on bail, was supposed to make an appearance before the court on July 15, 2019, for a hearing.

As accused Faruk entered the courtroom for the hearing, Hasan suddenly started chasing him with a knife and attacked him. Faruk ran into the judge’s chamber to save his life, but Hasan chased him to the chamber and stabbed him indiscriminately.

The entire incident took place in front of Judge Begum Fatema Ferdous of Comilla Additional District and Sessions Judge Court 3.

Severely wounded, Faruk was taken to Comilla Medical College and Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, Hasan was apprehended by former ASI Firoz of Comilla's Bangra police station, who had come to appear in court for another case.
