Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Dr Selina Hayat Ivy has filed a case under the Digital Security Act against Narayanganj Metropolitan Awami League General Secretary Adv Khokon Saha and Prodip Das, publisher and moderator of Facebook page and YouTube channel Hindu Lives Matter.
Khokon Saha and Prodip are accused of making defamatory comments about the mayor on Facebook and YouTube.
Mayor Ivy filed the case at the court of Bangladesh Cyber Tribunal Judge Ash Sams Joglul Hossain on Monday afternoon, court clerk Shamim Al Mamun said.The court took the statement of the plaintiff during the filing of the case.
Following the hearing, the court directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct an investigation and file a report on February 8.
According to the case statement, YouTube channel Hindu Lives Matter spread baseless and misleading news about Mayor Ivy in an interview with Khokon Saha on November 13.
Khokon Saha’s comments in the interview hurt religious sentiment, went against the spirit of the Liberation War and were made with the intention of causing social instability and communal riots for political gains, the case statement said.
In the interview, Khokon alleged that Mayor Ivy has claimed ownership of a pond that her ancestors had leased from the government for a century. Ivy denies the allegation.
When asked about the case, Khokon Saha said: “I have heard about the case through various media, but the documents of the case have not reached me yet.
