The High Court on Tuesday denied bail to JKG Healthcare Chairperson Dr Sabrina Sharmin Hussain in a case filed over issuing fake Covid-19 test reports and related fraud.
The bench of Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar dismissed the bail plea on the grounds that it was not properly presented.
Advocate Syed Mamun Mahbub stood for the petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Md Monirul Islam represented the state.
The case is currently being heard by the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court.
Police arrested Sabrina on July 12. She is in jail in the case filed over the issuing of fake Covid-19 certificates.
JKG Healthcare reportedly provided 27,000 coronavirus reports without following proper test procedures, and most of them turned out to be fake.
On August 20, a Dhaka court framed charges against Sabrina and seven others in the case.
On June 24, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) cancelled all approvals given to JKG Healthcare for collection and testing of Covid-19 samples.
The cancellation order was issued a day after police arrested three JKG Healthcare officials, including Dr Sabrina’s husband and JKG Healthcare CEO Ariful Chowdhury, and two others for their suspected involvement in giving fake Covid-19 test reports to people who had given samples at the health facility.
Dr Sabrina's name came into discussion when it emerged that she is the organization’s chairman. However, She has denied holding the position, claiming she only provided consultancy.
