The bench of Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar on Tuesday passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the independent lawmaker.

The lawmaker filed the anticipatory bail petition with the High Court Division in the case filed by the EC.

A case was filed against him for violating the electoral code of conduct during the by-polls for electing the chairman for Charbhadrasan upazila parishad in Faridpur.

On October 15, Senior District Election Commission Officer Nauabul Islam filed the case with Charbhadrasan police station.

In the first information report (FIR) of the case, legal action was sought against the member of parliament under Upazila Parishad Electoral Code 2013 and Upazila Parishad Electoral Code of Conduct 2016.

Nixon reportedly threatened the deputy commissioner (DC) and the assistant commissioner (land) of Faridpur over the arrest of his supporters during the by-polls.

He issued the threat at a victory rally held in front of Charbhadrasan upazila Awami League office after Awami League candidate and the upazila unit Awami League General Secretary Md Kawsar Hossain won the election.
