Blogger Niloy murder: Charge sheet against sacked major Zia, 12 others submitted in court

The has court set Tuesday to hear whether it would take cognizance of the charges

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) pressed charges on Sunday against 13 suspects -- including sacked army major Syed Ziaul Haque -- accused in the case filed for the sensational killing of blogger Niladri Chattopadhyay Niloy on August 7, 2015.

After finishing the investigation, Md Akhtaruzzaman, an inspector of DMP’s CTTC and also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM) Court on Sunday.

The has court set Tuesday to hear whether it would take cognizance of the charges.

The others accused are in the case are – top Ansarullah Bangla Team activists Tarikul Islam, Masum Rana, Khairul Islam alias Fahim alias Jishan, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Saad Al Nahiyan, Kamal Hossain, Kawsar Hossain, Mortuja Faysal, Mufti Abdul Gaffar, Abu Siddique Sohel, Arafat Rahman Siam, and Mozammel Hossain alias Saimon.

Earlier, twelve of the aforementioned accused were arrested from different places of the country at different times.

Khairul, Arafat, Abdullah, Abu Siddique, and Saimon are now in jail but the rest are out on bail.

The IO of the case showed Zia as a fugitive in the charge sheet of the case.

According to the case, unknown assailants brutally hacked Niloy, 27, to death at his East Gorhan rented flat in the capital Dhaka on August 7, 2015.

Niloy worked at an NGO called Research and Development Collective.

After the murder, the victim’s wife, Asha Moni, lodged the murder case with Khilgaon police station accusing four unidentified individuals.
