The Supreme Court has suspended Advocate Eunus Ali Akond from practicing law for two weeks for his alleged “derogatory” comments about the judiciary on Facebook.
Eunus was also summoned by the court on October 11 to explain why punitive action should not be taken against him.
An Appellate Division bench led by Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order in a virtual hearing on Sunday, while Additional Attorney General Murad Reza took the matter to the court.
According to the court order, the lawyer is not allowed to practice law for two weeks.
The Appellate Division also ordered the Bangladesh Telephone Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove the “derogatory” post and block the lawyer’s Facebook account.
