Bangladeshis killed in Libya: HC grants bail to one of the accused

On May 28, 26 Bangladeshis were killed by human traffickers in Libya

The High Court has granted bail to Mosammat Sanzida in a case filed for the trafficking of 26 Bangladeshis who were killed in Libya on May 28.

The bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md Badruzzaman issued the bail order on Tuesday.

Advocate Kamruzzaman Kachi stood for the bail petition and Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah represented the state.

The deputy attorney general later said the state will file an appeal against the High Court order.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police arrested Sanzida from her residence in Mogbazar's Sonalibagh on June 8 in connection with a case filed with Paltan police station on June 5.

On May 28, 38 Bangladeshis and several people of African origin were held hostage by human traffickers in Libya. Even though they were paid up to $10,000 by each hostage, the traffickers had demanded a large sum of money again.

At one stage, the traffickers fired shots, killing 26 Bangladeshis and two others in the process.

According to Police Headquarters, 71 people have been arrested till now in 26 cases filed across the country for the murders and the human trafficking to Libya.

Of those 26 cases, CID is investigating 15, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) one, Detective Branch (DB) of DMP five, and Madaripur district police five.
