Four journalists, including Prothom Alo Editor Motiur Rahman, have been sued in Comilla over allegations of confusing and defamatory reports being carried in the Bangla-language daily against former home minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir.

Md Wasim Akram, joint convener of Poalgacha union Awami League in Barura upazila, filed a Tk-50 crore defamation case with the court of Comilla Senior Judicial Magistrate Nusrat Jahan Urmi on Monday, according to advocate Jihadul Alam Bhuiyan, lawyer for the plaintiff.

The other accused are Prothom Alo reporters Sharifuzzam, Masud Rana and Iftekhar Mahmud. The court set November 30 for hearing on the case, the lawyer said.

In his complaint Wasim Akram stated that the accused in collusion with one another published two reports, “Ekti onumodonhin hospital (An unauthorized hospital) on July 30 and Onner Riner Takai kena Mohiuddiner hospital” (Mohiuddin's hospital bought with loan money of others) on September 4.

The plaintiff claimed that the news was false, fabricated and baseless and had defamed former home minister Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir. He sought Tk 50 crore as compensation.
