HC to hear writ seeking 50L compensation for each Narayanganj mosque fire victim on September 8

Till Sunday afternoon, at least 26 people died from the incident

The High Court has fixed September 8 for hearing a writ seeking Tk50 lakh as compensation for each of the Narayanganj mosque fire victims.

Supreme Court lawyers Advocate Taimur Alam Khandaker and Advocate Mar-e-um Khondaker filed a writ seeking a suo moto order with the High Court bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Khairul Alam on Sunday.

On Monday, the court fixed September 8 for hearing the writ with government representation.

The petition also requested the court to direct the government to take appropriate legal action against those responsible for the tragic incident and order concerned utility service providers to ensure routine examination and maintenance efforts.

Till Sunday afternoon, at least 24 people, who suffered severe burn injuries in the air conditioner explosion during prayers at Baitus Salah Jame Mosque at Fatullah in Narayanganj on Friday night, died at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

Dozens of other people were also injured in the blast and are currently undergoing treatment at the burn institute.

Meanwhile, three separate probe bodies were formed to investigate the incident.
