Tribunal accepts charge sheet against Shahed in arms case

A tribunal in Dhaka has accepted the charge sheet against Regent Hospital owner Mohammad Shahed alias Shahed Karim in a case filed under Arms Act with Uttara police station.

Judge KM Imrul Kayesh of the Metropolitan Session Judge Courts' in Dhaka took the charge sheet into cognizance on Wednesday in presence of the lone accused.

The court also set August 27 for the hearing of charge framing against Shahed in the case after police produce him before it.

All the case documents including charge sheet was shifted to Metropolitan Session Judge Court in Dhaka for starting trial against Shahed.

Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Syrul Islam, who is the investigation officer of the case, said a total of 14 people had been named in the charge sheet as prosecution witnesses, including the complainant.

Earlier on July 19, the DB conducted a special drive with Shahed and a pistol, a bullet, a magazine, 10 bottles of phensedyl, and five bottles of liquor from an abandoned car on Sonargaon Janapath Road in Uttara, said DB Additional Commissioner Abdul Baten.

Later, the detectives filed two cases with Uttara West police station under Narcotics Control Act and Arms Act.

Law enforcers raided Mirpur and Uttara branches of Regent Hospital on July 6 on charge of issuing fake Covid-19 certificates and charging the admitted patients exorbitant fees.

The Regent Group head office along with both the hospitals was sealed off and 16 people, including the chairman, were sued on charge of issuing fake coronavirus test reports.
