Update : 05 Jun 2017, 12:38 PM
The Supreme Court has cleared the way to continue the murder trial of cadet college student Sharmila Shahrin Pollen at a lower court. Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha-led Appeallate Division bench upheld a High Court on Monday, rejecting a review plea filed by the accused. The High Court on April 6 ordered continuation of trial against five people including, Major Nazmul, in a Mymensingh court. The other accused are – Major Monir Ahmed Chowdhury, Associate Professor Abul Hossain, non-commissioned officer Md Osheruzzaman and hostel staff Hena Begum. Four of the accused are on bail while Major Monir is on the run. Mymensingh Girls’ Cadet College (MGCC) student Pollen was found dead in the dormitory on February 11, 2005. A judicial investigation in 2013 found that the grade XII student was murdered, contrary to what the college authorities had been claiming. It also blamed the college authorities of trying to cover up the murder. “To hide the fact of her murder, her body was hanged by her orna [a long scarf] from the shower pipe in Shanti House,” the report said.
