A Dhaka court has placed JKG Healthcare Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury on a fresh two-day remand in a case filed regarding the Covid-19 test scam.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Masudur Rahman passed the order after Detective Branch (DB) of Police Inspector and Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Liakat Ali produced her before the court seeking a five- day of fresh remand on Friday.
On Monday, another Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shahinur Rahman granted a three- day remand to the police to interrogate Sabrina in the Covid-19 test scam case.
The accused gave important information regarding the Covid-19 test scam, the IO said.
"We sought for a fresh remand to find further details about the scam from her," the IO added.
Opposing the remand, defense counsel Saifuzzaman Tuhin submitted a bail petition for Sabrina. But the court rejected the plea after the hearing.
JKG Healthcare is an organization accused in the Covid-19 test scam, where fake reports were given to the patients and actual test samples were thrown out.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday also appointed its Deputy Director Selina Akter Moni to further investigate the recent allegations brought against JKG Chairman Sabrina. She allegedly amassed Tk8 crore illegally through giving fake Covid-19 test results
ACC Director (public relations) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
On Sunday, police have arrested the JKG Chairman Sabrina over her suspected involvement in a recently discovered Covid-19 test scam in Dhaka.
Dr Sabrina, also a cardiac surgeon at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), was initially summoned to the DMP Tejgaon Division DC’s office and later shown arrested in the case over the test scam after a brief interrogation.
Meanwhile, the Health Ministry suspended Dr Sabrina from the NICVD for holoding a position at a private organization while being a government employee. An office order was issued following her arrest.
