A Dhaka court has placed Tariqul Islam alias Tareque Shibli on a five day remand.
Tariqul is a close associate of Regent Hospital owner Md Shahed, and was arrested in a case filed for the alleged issuance of fake Covid-19 certificates.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate, Morshed Al Mamun Bhuyan, issued the order on Friday after Inspector Md Alamgir Gazi produced Tariqul in court seeking a seven day remand for interrogation. Alamgir is an inspector at the Uttara East police station and the case investigation officer.
Tariqul was arrested from the capital’s Nakhalpara area on Thursday.
On June 6, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted raids at the Uttara and Mirpur branches of Regent Hospital in Dhaka.
RAB had received several complaints that the hospital was issuing fake Covid-19 certificates and charging excessive fees for Covid-19 testing and treatment of inpatients.
The following day, the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) ordered a stop to all activities of Regent Hospital due to irregularities.
