Rooppur power plant graft: HC denies bail to suspended engineer

ACC pressed graft charges on several people over irregularities in supplying furniture and appliances

The High Court has denied bail to an engineer in graft cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Case (ACC) over graft in supplying furniture and appliances at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project (RNPP) housing project in Pabna.

Following a virtual hearing on Sunday, Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukdar kept the bail plea by now- suspended deputy assistant engineer Shafiqul Islam pending for hearing until the court reopens.

On December 12 last year, the ACC filed the case with its Pabna district office against Shafiqul Islam and several others on charges of irregularities involving Tk 26 crore in supplying furniture and household items to the officials of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

The same bench on Sunday drop out the another bail petition of Ashif Islam, managing director of the contractor Mazid Sons Construction Ltd over the same charges.
