The High Court has refused bail to former ward councillor of Dhaka North City Corporation, Habibur Rahman Mizan, in two separate corruption cases.
The bench of justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder on Sunday kept the two bail petitions on stand over (pending) till the court reopens.
Advocate Yusuf Hussain Humayun accompanied by Md Zakir Hossain joined the virtual hearing. Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.
Mizan, councillor of DNCC ward 32 and former general secretary of Awami League's Mohammadpur unit, was detained in Srimangal on October 11 when he was trying to flee to India.
RAB also raided his residence on Aurangazeb Road in Mohammadpur as part of their crackdown on casinos. They recovered cheques worth Tk6.77 crore and Tk1 crore in FDRs.
On November 6 last year, the ACC filed another case against Habibur on charges of amassing Tk30 crore beyond his known sources of income.
A Dhaka court earlier rejected two bail petitions of Mizan in connection with the cases in January this year.
