Six lawyers including a state minister have so far passed away from Covid-19 in the country.
Supreme Court (SC) lawyer Advocate AKM AMin Uddin Manik, who is serving as Deputy Attorney General, confirmed the deaths.
The deceased are former member of the parliament Advocate Mokbul Hossain, who died on May 24, Advocate Abu Zafar Mohammad Mohiuddin, who died on June 3, Advocate Mohiuddin Ahmed, who passed away on June 11, State Minister of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Advocate Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, who died on June 13, member of Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association Advocate Mohammad Sawkat Hossain Apu, who passed away on May 26, and Advocate Mostafizur Rahman, who died on June 13.
Another three lawyers have also passed away with possible symptoms of coronavirus. However, these cases could not be confirmed definitively to have happened due to the disease.
They are Advocate Abul Kashem Chowdhury, who died on May 28, Advocate Fazul Karim, who died on May 31, and Advocate Abdul Hai Mandal who passed away on June 13. All of them were members of Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association.
Advocate AKM Amin Uddin Manik said that data for the total number of infected lawyers across the country is not available. However, he added that he personally knows many lawyers from different associations who are infected by Covid-19.
