33,155 accused get bail through virtual courts

489 minors accused were granted bail from Children’s Court (Shishu Adalat)

The virtual court proceedings have granted bail to 33,155 accused persons with 60,419 hearings conducted across the country.

According to a statement from the Supreme Court, the bails were granted between May 11 and June 11.

During this time, a total of 489 accused minors were granted bail from Children’s Court (Shishu Adalat) through virtual hearings and 460 were handed over to their guardians. 

880 are still in three juvenile correction centres, the statement added.

Earlier on May 10, the chief justice issued directives and a user manual in line with the ordinance issued by President Md Abdul Hamid on May 9, allowing regular court proceedings to be conducted virtually during the Covid-19 lockdown in Bangladesh.

The Judicial Service Commission has also signed an MoU with the Universal Medical College Hospital on Friday for providing priority treatment to judges of subordinate courts.

Under the MoU, judicial service officers will get treatment on a priority basis from the hospital.
