Nayem Ashraf on Thursday confessed to raping one of the two plaintiffs of the Banani rape case to Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder.
Abdul Halim alias Nayeem Ashraf is a lifelong conman who along with four others have been accused of raping two university students on March 28 at Raintree Hotel in Banani.
Court sources said he had confessed to raping one of the university students in his statement to the Dhaka metropolitan magistrate, which was recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
On May 18, the two others, Shafat Ahmed and Shadman Sakif, also confessed to a court that they had raped the two female university students at The Raintree Hotel.
The duo confessed to the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates Ahsan Habib and Sabbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury.

According to the case filed with Banani police station on May 6, Shafat, the son of Dildar Ahmed, one of the owners of Apan Jewellers, and his friend Nayem Ashraf, the second accused, raped the two university students while Shafat’s bodyguard held the girls at gunpoint.
A case was filed against Shafat Ahmed, Nayem Ashraf, Shadman Sakif, Shafat’s driver Billal Hossain and his bodyguard Rahmat Ali with the Banani police after a 48-hour delay.

Nayem was produced before the magistrate to record his plea after a seven-day remand period by the investigation officer, said Police Inspector of Women Victim Support Center Ismat Ara Ame.
Nayeem Ashraf was arrested from Lohajang in Munshiganj on May 17 after being on the run for 11 days.

Managing Director of Raintree Hotel Shah Mohammad Adnan Harun and General Manager Franck Forget went to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) office on Thursday with their lawyer to give their statements to the NHRC probe committee.
The probe committee questioned the authorities about the rape that happened in their hotel premises for over an hour.
