1,821 people granted bail on 4th day of virtual courts

All together 2,434 case hearings were conducted in the sub-ordinate courts across the country in virtual hearings

A total of 1,821 people were granted bail across Bangladesh on the fourth day of virtual court proceedings on Thursday.

According to Supreme Court sources, a total of 12 petitions were put up including 8 new petitions with the bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan.

A total of 270 cases were put up, including 100 new cases, while 16 were disposed of by the bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain.

35 cases were put up, including 25 new cases, while 5 cases were disposed of by the bench of Justice JBM Hasan, and 1 new case was put up before the bench of Justice Khurshid Alam.

Hearing of 2,434 cases were conducted in the sub-ordinate courts across the country by virtual hearings.

A total of 472 people were granted bail in the subordinate courts in Dhaka division, while hearings on 586 cases were conducted online.

In Chittagong division, 336 people were granted bail in 481 virtual hearings.

In Rangpur division, 135 people being granted bail in 238 virtual hearings.

In Barisal division, 121 people were granted bail while hearings on 362 petitions were conducted online.

In Rajshahi division, 91 people were granted bail while hearings of 65 petitions were conducted.

In Khulna division, hearings of 288 petitions were conducted online and 275 people were granted bail.

In Sylhet division, 157 people obtained bail in 180 cases of virtual hearings.

In Mymensingh division, 234 people were granted bail in 287 hearings by virtual courts.

Earlier on Sunday, the chief justice issued directives and a user manual in line with the ordinance issued by President Md Abdul Hamid on Saturday, allowing regular court proceedings virtually during the period of the Covid-19 lockdown in Bangladesh.

As of Thursday, Bangladesh has confirmed 18,863 coronavirus cases, with the death toll rising to 283 after 14 new fatalities were reported.

Till now the fast-spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 299,553 lives and infected more than 4,467,755 people globally, according to Worldometer.

As many as 1,678,566 people have recovered from Covid-19, which has spread to 216 countries and territories across the world.
