A Singapore court has sentenced a Bangladeshi construction worker to 17 years imprisonment for abducting and raping a woman at MacRitchie Reservoir.
The court of Justice Choo Han Teck also ordered 24 strokes of the cane for Pramanik Liton, 24, on Friday, reports The Straits Times.
According to the report, Liton was found guilty of two counts of aggravated rape, one count of sexual assault by penetration and one count of abduction for illicit intercourse.
His sentence will be backdated to February 10, 2015.
On Feb 8, 2015, Liton abducted a 39-year-old Chinese national at knife-point and raped her. Two days later, he was arrested at his worksite.
Delivering his verdict, Justice Choo Han Teck said Liton's evidence was bizarre and incomprehensible and his outright denial was an act of desperation.
On Thursday, Liton told the court that he did not have sex with the victim because she had died from fear.
However, the victim is alive and had testified two days earlier.
