3 public prosecutors appointed in Abrar murder trial

The court is scheduled to hold a hearing on charge framing on April 6

The government has appointed three public prosecutors (PPs) to conduct BUET student Abrar Fahad murder case at Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1.

Solicitor wing, under the Law and Justice Division, issued a notification signed by lawyer Runa Nahid Akter, on Wednesday reports BSS.

The order will come into effect immediately.

Of the three, Advocate Mosharraf Hossain Kazal has been made chief special public prosecutor. The other two special public prosecutors are Advocate Ehsanul Haque Somaji and Advocate Md Abu Abdullah Bhuiyan. 

The court is scheduled to hold a hearing on charge framing in the case on April 6.

The case is now pending before Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1. 

Earlier on March 18, 2019, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court transferred the case to Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1, two days after Public Security Division of Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification in this regard.

On November 13, 2019, the court took into cognizance the charge sheet in the case filed by Detective Branch (DB) of police against 25 accused.

Among the 25 accused, 11 took part in the gruesome murder directly and the other played roles in the crime indirectly. 

Of those arrested, eight have given confessional statements before the court.

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) students and the varsity authorities found the seemingly lifeless body of Abrar, 22, on the first-floor stairs of Sher-e-Bangla Hall and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead at around 6.30 am on October 7, 2019.

Abrar’s father Barkat Ullah filed the murder case at Chawkbazar Police Station against 19 people.
