Update : 12 Mar 2020, 05:30 PM

The Supreme Court’s Appellate Division on Thursday has summoned Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Begum Kamrun Nahar for granting bail to a rape accused Aslam Shikder despite a stay order.

The court also cancelled the tribunal’s order and asked Aslam to surrender before a subordinate court within two weeks.

A seven-member bench led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain on Thursday asked the judge to appear before the court on April 2, with an explanation.

Earlier in the day, the Appellate Division stayed the bail order of the rape accused Aslam Shikder.

According to the case statement, a case was filed with Hatirjheel police station against ATN Bangla program producer Aslam Shikder on September, 13, 2018, for allegedly raping a woman.

After the case was filed, police arrested him.

On June 18, last year, the High Court granted him bail which was stayed by the Chamber Judge following a petition filed by state counsel.

On March 2 of this month, Judge Kamrun Nahar of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 7, granted him bail.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam brought the matter to the attention of the court on Thursday.

Terming the tribunal’s order as tantamount to contempt of court, the attorney general said there is no scope to grant bail to any accused in this way.
