A Dhaka court has sent Mohammedan Sporting Club’s director-in-charge Md Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan to jail, rejecting his bail petition in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan passed the order on Sunday after Tejgaon police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamrul Islam, also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court after completing his two-day remand.
In the remand prayer IO said: "Lokman gave important information in remand, which should not be disclosed for the sake of the proper investigation of the case. Therefore, he needs to be in jail further for the sake of a thorough investigation."
Defence Counsels filed bail petition mentioning that the accused is physically ill and an elderly person, so his bail may be allowed.
However, after the hearing the court sent Lokman to jail rejecting his bail petition in the same case.
Earlier on Thursday, another Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shahinur Rahman granted Lokman two-day fresh remand for the third time, in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act with Tejgaon police station.
On September 26, Rapid Action Battalion arrested Mohammedan Sporting Club Director-in-Charge Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan from his residence.
The raid at Lokman's residence came three days after another drive that shut down illegal gambling operations inside Mohammedan Sporting Club in Motijheel on September 23.
During the raid, police had seized two roulette tables, and nine betting boards from the sports organization. They also found 12 walkie-talkies, knives, and money counting machines.
