Dr Akash suicide: SC upholds Mitu’s bail

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld a High Court order granting bail to Tanzila Haq Chowdhury Mitu over instigating the suicide of her husband Mustafa Murshed Akash, a doctor of Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique issued the order dismissing a state plea seeking a stay on the HC order on Thursday.

On August 28, the HC bench of Justice Md Emdadul Huq and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo granted bail to Mitu.

Mustafa Murshed Akash, 33, killed himself in Chandgaon residential area in Chittagong on February, 1 after an altercation with his wife Mitu about her alleged illicit affairs.

On the same day, police arrested Mitu over the suicide.

Victim’s family members said before his apparent suicide, Akash had shared photos of his wife on his Facebook profile and wrote about her alleged extramarital affairs before announcing his decision to end his own life.

Akash's mother Jobeda Khanam filed a case with Chandgaon police station accusing Mitu, Mitu's father Anisul Haque Chowdhury and mother Shamim Shelly, sister, Sanzila Haque Chowdhury, her alleged boyfriends Mahbubul Haque and Indian citizen Uttam Patel.
