A Chittagong court has issued an arrest warrant for BNP central Vice President Giash Uddin Quader Chowdhury for passing offensive and defamatory remarks against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The bench of Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahidullah Kaiser issued the arrest warrant on Wednesday.
The order was passed against Giash Uddin as he did not appear before the court on successive occasions.
Giash Uddin’s defense lawyer Advocate Enamul Haque said his client could not appear before the court as he has been undergoing treatment in Singapore for heart diseases.
However, the court rejected his petition and issued the warrant.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Fatikchary upazila unit Nazim Uddin Muhury filed the case against Giash Uddin for his derogatory and defamatory remarks against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a function in May 31, 2018.
Giash Uddin, is also known as the younger brother of war criminal and executed Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
