3 to die, 7 get life in jail for killing Dhaka youth

A Dhaka court has awarded death penalty to three people and life term imprisonment to seven others for killing a youth in Dhaka in 2011.

Judge Abdur Rahman Sardar of Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 pronounced the verdict on Thursday.

The death-row convicts are –Rahim alias Arif, Ziku and Abu Bakar Sidddiq. All of them were tried in absentia, reports UNB.

Those sentenced to life in jail are: Monti, Milon, Akash alias Russsel, Farhad Hosssain, Sajib Ahmed Khan, Shohin Chan Khadem and Mohammad Ali Hawleder Babu. All except Mohammad Ali Hawleder Babu remained fugitive.

The court also fined the life term convicts Tk20,000 each, in default, to suffer more one year in jail.

According to the prosecution, Rajab was stabbed by the convicts near Court House street on July 24, 2011, when he went to Nawabpur road to repair his mobile phone.

The victim later died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Victim’s brother filed the murder case with Nawabpur police station against the accused.

Sub Inspector (SI) and investigating officer of the case BM Nazmul Huda on December 5, 2012, submitted the charge sheet against the accused.
