The High Court Division of the Supreme Court has set a 6-month deadline for the disposal of the corruption case againstNur Hossain, a condemned convict in the infamous seven- murder in Narayanganj.
He was shown arrested in a graft case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission in 2016.
The bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order on Wednesday.
Deputy attorney general AKM Amin Uddin Manik, and assistant attorney general Helena Begum Chaina stood for the state while advocate Md Shafiqul Islam represented the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) during today's hearing.
According to the case statement, Nur Hossain, formerly the chairman of Narayanganj's Siddhirganj union, illegally siphoned tk176,5000 through eleven bank-cheques in 1999.
Later a probe by the district's anti-corruption bureau found incriminating evidence against Noor Hossain being involved in the graft.
On October 30, 2002, the Anti-Corruption Commission's assistant director Md Mozammel Haque filed a case with Narayanganj police station.
Following the case investigation, ACC assistant director Md Ali Akbar filed a charge sheet against Nur Hossain.
However, on January 30, 2013, Narayanganj's special judges' court acquitted Nur Hossain in the graft charges.
Later, ACC filed a petition seeking a review of the special court's acquittal order with the High Court division on October 27, 2014.
The High Court division, on December 7, 2014, issued a rule asking why the acquittal order should not be scraped.
Following a hearing, the court declared the rule compelling, and ordered the trial to be completed in seven months time.
