Jamaat-backed mayor sent to jail

A Chapainawabganj court has sent to jail Sadar municipality Mayor Md Nazrul Islam in a case filed for subversive activities. Judge Md Enamul Bari of the First Special Tribunal gave the order Sunday afternoon after Nazrul, also a local Jamaat-e-Islami leader, filed a bail petition appeared before it. Public prosecutor Jobdul Haque told reporters that the accused had failed to appear before the court on April 5 as per the court's previous order and filed a time petition through his lawyer. The court rejected the time petition, issued an arrest warrant against him and transferred the case to the special tribunal.
