A man named Kabir Hossain, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Jubo League leader and businessman, Sahabuddin, in Lakshmipur.
Judge Md Shahenur of Lakshmipur District and Sessions Judge Court gave the sentence on Tuesday afternoon.
Kabir Hossain is the son of Siraj Mia, hailing from Kushakhali village of Sadar upazila.
The other two accused, Nasir Uddin and Jahangir Alam, were proven not to be guilty and were therefore set free.
The defendant's lawyer, Advocate Md Hasan said: " The innocent two were not involved in the case and were accused because of local enmity. We have proven that to the court."
According to the statement, on November 22, 2010, Sahabuddin was called from his home and hacked to death.
The next day the deceased's older brother, Md Golam Mowla Chowdhury, filed a murder case against 15—including Kabir as the prime accused—with Lakshmipur police station.
After the investigation, police submitted a charge sheet against the three at the district court.
