A Narayanganj court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old child in Rupganj upazila.
The convict, Faizur Rahman Sumon, was also fined Tk50,000, confirmed State Prosecutor and Special Public Prosecutor Rakib Uddin.
Narayangan Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Md Shahin Uddin gave the verdict on Tuesday.
According to the case statement, on May 22, 2013, Faizur went to a neighbour’s house to watch television and raped the child after finding her alone. Later, neighbours rescued the child in critical condition.
Following the incident, the child’s father filed a case with Rupganj police station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
The court reached the verdict, following a lengthy trial, after recording 11 testimonies from the state.
