4 to die, 1 to get life in jail for killing Natore AL leader

A district court has handed down the death penalty to four people—and life imprisonment to another—in a case filed over the murder of Awami League leader, Moazzem Hossain, in Natore's Lalpur upazila.

Judge Saifullah of Natore's additional district and sessions judge's court pronounced the verdict on Thursday at noon.

The death row convicts are Shamim and Sujon, sons of Shahidul Islam of Bahadurpur village in Lalpur upazila; Motin, son of Malik of the same village; and Shukkur alias Babu, son of Abdul Khaleque.

Santu, son of Foyez Uddin of the same area, was sentenced to life in prison. 

Natore court's Inspector Aminur Rahman and Judge's court Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Sirajul Islam confirmed the matter. 

PP Advocate Sirajul Islam said: "Moazzem Hossain, an upazila unit Awami League leader was killed in 2002. A case was filed with Lalpur police station on March 1. Following a lengthy trial, the court delivered the verdict on Thursday."
