The High Court on Monday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why advertisements extending compliments to ministers in newspapers by government officials should not be declared illegal.
Cabinet division secretary and ministry of public administration and others were made respondents to answer to the rule within the next two weeks.
A High Court bench comprising of Justices Sheikh Hassan Arif and Razik-Al-Jalil issued the rule on Monday following a writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.
Advocate Manzill Murshid stood for the petitioners while Deputy Attorney General Muklesur Rahman stood for the state.
Four persons including Advocate Aklas Uddin Bhuiyan of the organization filed the writ on March 31.
