The High Court has ordered Suprovat Paribahan to pay Tk10 lakh to the family of Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury—who was killed in a road accident on Tuesday—within seven days.
The bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam gave the order on Wednesday, following a petition filed seeking compensation for the victim’s family.
The petition was filed by Supreme Court lawyer barrister Nazrul Islam Talukder.

The court also issued a ruling asking the authorities concerned and the bus company to explain why they should not be directed to compensate Abrar's family with Tk5 crore.
Secretaries to the Home Ministry, Ministry of Road, Transport and Bridges, inspector general of police, Suprovat Paribahan authority, and four others have asked to respond to the ruling within two weeks.

Additionally, the court asked the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Accident Research Institute (ARI) of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), and additional traffic commissioner of Dhaka to submit a probe report within 15 days.
Deputy Attorney General Zahid Sarwer Kajol stood for the state.
On Tuesday, Abrar—an honours first year student of Bangladesh University of Professionals' (BUP's) International Relations program—was run over and killed on the spot by a Suprovat Paribahan bus while crossing the road in front of Jamuna Future Park.
