A court here sentenced three accused to life imprisonment in the murder case of former Bangladesh Chhatra League vice president of Rajshahi University School and College unit, Robiul Islam Robi, on Tuesday, while seven others were acquitted.
The convicted are Shetu Islam, 30, Babla, 27, and Shohag, 26.
They were also fined Tk10,000 each, or will have to stay six more months behind bars if they are unable to pay.
Judge Anup Kumar, of the district’s Speedy Trial Tribunal Court, passed the order on Tuesday afternoon.
Public prosecutor Entazul Haque Babu confirmed this to the Dhaka Tribune, adding that of the three convicted, Shetu remains absconding.
A group attacked Robi at the Rajshahi University Fine Arts Department premises during Pohela Boishakh on April 14, 2013. He died on the spot.
His elder brother, Shafiul, filed a murder case with Boalia model police station the next day, accusing 12 persons .
