A Dhaka court has granted permanent bail to cricketer Arafat Sunny in a case filed under the ICT Act by his wife.
Arafat was arrested from his Aminbazar residence in Savar on January 22, two weeks after Nasrin Sultana filed a case with Mohammadpur police accusing her husband of posting their personal pictures on social media without consent.
In a later case filed under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on March 9, Nasrin accused her husband and mother-in-law of torture. The court asked Arafat to settle that issue with Nasrin by April 10 and was granted bail.
When the court asked Nasrin if she had any problem with Arafat’s bail, she replied that the issue between them had been settled and now they want to resume their married life.
Cyber Tribunal (Bangladesh) Dhaka Judge Mohammad Saiful Islam granted him bail on a bond of Tk50,000 after hearing a bail petition submitted by his lawyer Kazi Nazib Ullah Hero on Wednesday.
"Now, there is no more restriction for Arafat to walk out of prison," the lawyer said.
